Maraschino Liqueur
Maraschino is a clear liqueur flavored with Marasca cherries including the crushed pits. The pits impart a subtle sour, almond-like flavor that adds complexity to this liqueur. It is fairly sweet, but not as sweet as most cordials. Maraschino liqueur is not to be confused with the red juice in jars of Maraschino cherries.
Maraschino was first made in the early part of the 16th century in what is today called Croatia.
If you are preparing a drink with Maraschino, be aware that different brands have varying levels of sweetness. You may need to adjust the amount called for in the recipe depending on your brand.
