Cane Spirit Rothschild
Native to St. Kitts in the Caribbean, Cane Spirit Rothschild (which is commonly called CSR) is a fiery white rum that is often mixed with the local grapefruit soda, Ting. It is distilled from cane juice and it resembles a vodka since it is distilled to such a high proof (from what I have read up to 190 proof). This yields a very clean spirit with only faint flavors of the underlying fermented cane juice.
Though clean, it is unaged and drunk straight provides quite a kick. I found this out soon after touching down in St. Kitt's when I asked the bartender for a CSR neat. I wanted to see what it really tasted like. The bartender said, "Are you sure?" I was. It wasn't awful but I would classify this as a mixing spirit. There is an abundant amount of heat along with a little funk that you might find in moonshine.
So after that it was dozens of Ting with Sting's which is how CSR is commonly drunk.
