I based this on a Trader Vic's Mai Tai. Think of it as a Mai Tai reduced down to its vital parts in an up cocktail. You need a very good rum for this one, Appleton 21 Year is perfect since it is close to what Trader Vic used in his first Mai Tai formula. If you want a Trader Cocktail that more resembles Vic's later formulas, replace the Appleton 21 with 1 ounce each Appleton 12 and aged Rhum Agricole.
