Farewell to Arms
- 2 oz White Rum (Plantation 3 Star)
- 3/4 oz Lime Juice
- 3/4 oz Grapefruit
- 1/2 oz Maraschino Liqueur
- 1/4 oz Campari
Shake everything with ice and strain into a chilled cocktail glass. Garnish with a slice of lime.

You really need a complex white rum for this cocktail. Plantation 3 Star is a combination of 3 different rums from 3 different islands, all aged to some degree. It works very well. There are not a lot of other white rums in its league, though perhaps Banks 5 Island rum. If you only have something like Bacardi, sub in 1/4 oz of Batavia Arrack.
On the palate this Hemingway Daiquiri variation from Jim Meehan at PDT is a citrusy cocktail with other layers of funk and the irresistible nutty bitterness from the Maraska cherry pits used to make Maraschino.
Go easy on the shake...you have a full 1.5 oz of juice here so unlike a boozier cocktail you can wet this one out in the shaker rather quickly especially in warm weather.
