Germain-Robin Select Barrel XO Brandy
Review

Amber color. Strong aromas of cake batter, lemon peel, pear, ginger, and mango. Measured open on the palate. Then a wave of oak. Dry, but with rich mouthfeel. Some hints of glycerine, roasted nuts, and orange peel. Coats the palate and won't let go--tails with lingering, prickly heat, nice acidity, and a tinge of anise. The full, rich aromas belie a lean, dry style--the structure, oak, and mouthfeel do the talking. This is the other side of the coin from the full, toffee-flavored style of some Cognacs (Kelt VSOP comes to mind). 2-3 minute finish. Tasted 5/20/2007.
