Saint James Hors d’Age Rum
Review

Brownish amber. Medium intensity aromas of burnt orange peel, honey, and cotton candy. Opens very slowly and stays somewhat subdued. Eventually some nutmeg, allspice, and lemon peel flavors peek out, but only slightly. Then comes a wave of reserved heat and smoke. Finishes with hints of rosemary, mint, some oak, raisins, and vanilla. Ends with a short finish. Overall, this rum is quite subdued--there are no glaring flaws, but whatever flavors there are are subsumed by the oak and smoke layer. Perhaps it would benefit from some breathing? Tasted 7/15/2007.
