I read about this drink in a book called The Ship and the Storm - Hurricane Mitch and the Loss of the Fantome. This book is about a ship that went down in Hurricane Mitch. The ship was part of a cruise line called Windjammer.
Windjammer's ships are all tall ships--not the floating condos that most cruise lines operate. It's a sad tale, but I was struck by a Windjammer tradition. They serve Rum Swizzles at 5pm from the bar for free. Try to find free drinks on the floating condos...
From my research it looks like Windjammer made their swizzles with overproof rum, dark rum, pineapple juice, orange juice, and grenadine. This sounded a little flat to me so I adapted a similar recipe from Gosling's web site. Go ahead an use Goslings Black Seal rum if you have it. Enjoy and give a toast to the crew of the Fantome.
