Boulard Grand Solage Calvados
Boulard Grand Solage Calvados is produced from Calvados from the Pays d'Auge region in Normandy, France. It is a blend of spirits that are three to five years old. This is the youngest Calvados in the Boulard range.
The apples are here in abundance. In the aromas and the front of the palate is plenty of dried or cooked apples. There is moderate complexity and oak structure after the initial wave of fruit. This is more of a fresh, young, fruit forward style.
Sip neat, on the rocks, or with a dash of soda and a lemon twist.
Review
Copper color. Strong aromas of dried apples, raisins, prunes, and earth. Silky at first, then a wave of stewed apples and lemon with faint notes of star anise. Then some faint floral notes that quickly turn to a dose of acidity and dry, cinnamon, spicy heat. The finish is fairly long and warm, with apple aromas wafting back up your nose. A fresh, engaging style. Tasted 8/5/2008.
